I-governance for transparency and accountability

In the website of the Province of Naga, the I-Government Program of the province was reported to be successful in improving service delivery, transparency, and accountability.

The I-Government Program includes a wide range of programs (from ICT-related programs to publication of various media primers on government policies). Quoting the provincial officials, the lines in front of their provincial building was vitually cut to half. Most of government forms are now available on their provincial website.

Status of on-going infrastructure projects, including bidding process forms are now available online. In effect, this improves the transparency in government transactions as well as accountability of officers. The processing time of projects are also cut to half, in effect improving the quality of service to their constituents.

given that corruption and redtape are among the most common problems of the govrernment, it will be helpoful if all local government units will have their own websites which can be readily accessible to their respective constituents.

The experience of Naga from 1998-2001 should be the model for other provinces.
