Happiness is a choice

Some people say technology makes us forget the simpler things in life. That as we spend more time online, we become less human. Well I’d say technology could also do the opposite.

I recently discovered this gem of a website months ago from an article in a magazine (again, I forgot what magazine, it’s either Time or Reader’s Digest). It’s called 1000awesomethings.com. What’s awesome about the website is that it makes people appreciate how beautiful life is. That happiness does not come with a hefty price tag (if not for free).

For starters, 1000awesomethings is the brainchild of a person named Neil Pasricha. It is a regularly-updated, Webby-award winning blog in which every weekday, one awesome thing in life is posted. I think the book compilation is going to be released on April 2010.

Some of my favorite entries are : Finding money you didn’t even know you lost, Sleeping in new bed sheets, Illegal naps, Building a stack of pancakes that looks just like the front of the box, The day when you first realize you can drive, Being the first person into a really crowded movie theater and getting the prime seats, Bakery air, When cashiers open up new check-out lanes at the grocery store, Hearing a stranger fart in public, Your pillow, Using Q-tips the way you’re not supposed to use them, Getting the eyelash out of your eye, The moment before the concert when the lights go out and before the band comes on stage, That feeling you get right after you just vomited, A good floss after a tough steak, The feeling of scrunching sand in your feet, Slurping hot soup in a cold night, Crying, Popping bubble wrap, The smell of freshly cut grass, Waking up before your alarm clock and realizing you’ve got lots of sleep time left, Celebrating your pet’s birthday even though they have no idea what’s going on, Rubbing someone’s newly shaved head, Turning off all the lights during a thunderstorm, When the phone rings and it’s someone you’re just thinking about, Your mom’s scrambled eggs, . . . . and the list still goes on

Cheesy? Maybe. But who cares? I choose to be happy.

wall-e! fave movie ;) nakakaaliw. just when i read about the lack/less face to face interaction, here i am at home with my boyfriend having our bi-weekly work-on-macbookpro-netbook sessions. we do our facebook, work, email check, blog etc and talk about it as we go on. naku, feeling ko ganito na magiging life namin in the future ;)
