Lies and Infidelity

"Hon, I am in a meeting [in Bulacan]. I will call you back."

This was what a married male friend once uttered to his wife on his mobile when the wife checked on what time he was going to be on his way home. Unfortunately, the unsuspecting wife who was then at a small gathering of family and friends, had someone around her who suggested if the wife would want to verify whether the husband was really in the place that he just reported himself to be. In the next hour, the wife had trooped to a place in Paranaque. In another 10 to 15 minutes, she already had her husband in tow. Thanks for then recent technology of being able to track the cell site which a mobile phone signal emanated from. The same service feature offered to parents to track their lost minor children turned out to be useful for tracking lost husbands, too.

Now there is GPS, short name for Global Positioning System, intended for use in navigation with the aid of satellites. It is currently being utilized for tracking stolen vehicles [BMW has this standard security feature]; for tracking, by initially "tagging", endangered ocean species as well as convicts on parole. It is also used in moving huge amounts of cash and valuables within, in or out of the U.S. It can be used for locating nearly anything on which a transmitter-receiver chip can be installed on. More and more mobile phones that are coming out in the market are GPS capable, making the phone users transmitter-receivers which could be tracked by GPS. I found out post-Christmas that aside from me, 3 of my other girl friends gifted their spouses/fiance with new mobile phones which happened to have the capability. When i told them what GPS could do, they realized who [incidentally] got the better gift last Christmas. Hopefully, no more lies and infidelity.

In a way, therefore, GPS as a standard car accessory, is a form of technology that can ruin the solidarity of "the family".
