Bits Per Second Diagnosis

We can do almost anything over the internet, we could practically live our lives infront of our PCs, with occasional trips for hygenic purposes. In the United States, eHealth seems to be getting more popular. YourDiagnosis.com is an example of this particular industry. YourDiagnosis.com "gathers essential information about your symptoms by intelligently adjusting its questions in response to your specific circumstance. It then performs a complex analysis to diagnose every possible condition that matches your symptoms, and calculates the likelihood of each condition or disease"(taken from FAQ section of website). eHealth can't completely take over physically going to your doctor for treatment, but it seems to me that eHealth's appeal is the fact that it can serve as an important diagnostic tool or for simply educating the patient. At the privacy of one's own home, the patient can find out what might be wrong with him/her, and then decide whether or not to go to the doctor's office.

In our country, i don't think we'll be hearing a lot from eHealth anytime soon. Even if we obtain a diagnosis from these websites, we'll still have to go to the doctor to verify it. We Filipinos try to avoid spending money if we could. And besides, we usually only go to the doctor when there is already, or apparently, something wrong with us. Even the doctors themselves would not prescribe treatment solely based on a diagnosis obtained online. You'll be getting your checkup again. If we are to popularize eHealth as a diagnostic tool, i think we should provide 2 things: (1) the option for the patient to be treated solely on an online diagnosis; and, (2)remedies to individuals who are misdiagnosed. I just think, for now, there is still no substitute for a trip to the doctor's office.
