(spoiler warning... don't read if haven't seen it but intend to)
The Philippine Government has been slowly moving towards the age of computers. Trying to keep pace with developments in ICT and the like, government agencies are being called upon to utilize this much needed resource. In the future, governance and government might entirely be run with computers. It's faster and very much accessible to the people themselves.
With the pros obviously outweighing the cons, why isn't the Philippines managing leaps and bounds in developing its ICT? Aside from the financial cost and lack of political will, what keeps our country from lagging behind?
Fear.
Enter: Die Hard 4.0
The movie paints a grissly picture of just how dangerous relying on computers can be. In the movie, the United States was paralyzed by cyber-terrorist. The tactical strikes of the terrorist was what they called a "fire sale". First, they took out transportation. Using computers, they hacked into the trasmportation system and screwed up traffic lights, subways, etc.. Then, using computers again, they hacked into government offices and set off alarms feigning the presence of biological weapons. Next, they took out the stock market. The terrorist did some more stuff which i can't recall anymore, but the main point was that it was a "fire sale"... everything must go.
Luckily for the Philippines, i doubt we could get completely paralyzed if such an attack happened right now. But if we did manage to develop in this area, and considering the fact that Filipinos are really good hackers, there just might be a chance that we'll get to see Die Hard 4.0 live and in color.
