Plagiarism. Why does it seem like everyone is getting caught copying another writer’s work? I’ve been hearing this news coming from different sectors of the society, from a student’s paper to Manny Pangilinan’s speech and now to Justice del Castillo’s ponencia.
I guess we can blame it on the fact that it is so much easier to research nowadays. One just have to type a few key words....then press enter, and an unlimited resource will come right before your eyes. And unlike before, where you have to manually search each and every book in the library; then write each and every line and paragraph you would like to take from a book. Now, you just have to highlight the portion you need, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, and there you have it! Everything you need is now in your paper.
But on the flipside, it is also very easy to check whether such quotations are original or mere copies by doing the exact same way research in the internet is done. Hence, even if it is so easy to copy, it is as easy to catch plagiarism as well.
So just a warning to other researchers, if you want to keep your job or still stay in school, when you copy, please learn to cite who the author is. A little footnote won’t hurt you.
