Because of the growing world population, a call for a more efficient and productive food industry is constantly being met by producers at whatever cost. Many new technologies are created to meet the demand. But the humane treatment of animal food products is usually sacrificed. This is yet another example of the dehumanizing effect of technology. We easily detach ourselves from the reality of the process and are often just concerned about the result or the product and rarely ponder on the ill-effects of our consumption to the environment.
