Interview in my shorts and slippers

Just minutes ago I was interviewing a witness for one of OLA’s clients. I had just concluded the interview and I am now back on my bed in my shorts and shirt in Las Pinas, while the client is probably cooking lunch for her family in Novaliches.

We conducted the interview on yahoo messenger via webcam.

This is yet another example of how technology makes my life a whole lot easier. While I still believe that there is no substitute for a good face to face interview, where you are able to fully observe the demeanor of the person you are talking to, I was exceedingly thankful for the convenience of being able to do the same task with me here in Las Pinas and the interviewee 3 hours away by travel in Novaliches on this lazy Sunday morning. Otherwise I would have had to drag my sleepy self at 5am in the morning just to be able to meet the witness at the reasonable hour of 8am and be back at the house in time for Sunday lunch. The added benefit is that I was able to record the entire conversation, for later review, using a third-party software called audacity.

I was only too happy that they had the necessary equipment on their end to make the online interview happen. Of course, now I have doubts whether the client really is indigent. But that’s a different matter.
