Wikipedia's Cry For Help

9gag.com had three words to say about this:
"You Will Fail."

Jimmy Wales is the founder of Wikipedia - that repository of all things scholarly and academic. Wikipedia has recently been sporting Wales' picture for its campaign to raise operation funds. The slogan of the campaign is actually quite catchy, "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet has free access to the sum of all human knowledge." Given the number of people who benefit from and use Wikipedia, a call for donations is not unreasonable.

I can't help but feel that 9gag is right though. Not only are we living in a world of technology and fast information but we are living in one that affords these commodities free of charge. Team Wales should have come up with more innovative ways to generate income. The fact is that Wikipedia end-users (myself included) have been brought up in a culture of free access. We expect someone else to pay the bill and we don't appreciate it when the bucket is being passed around for contributions. Dear Mr. Wales, you're an amazing visionary and you won't deserve it but yes, you will fail.
