Slavery and Freedom

"Do your email on my phone."

"What? Email on your phone?"

Information and communications technology has made us mobile. It has provided a certain degree of freedom from the work place. You can contact anyone anywhere you are. It appears that you will no longer be paralyzed by work.

On the other hand, it has made so many of us slaves to our jobs. You can't have real vacations. There is no more excuse for not getting messages anymore. Even during your maternity leave, you can still email or answer calls. Research if you have to.

At the end of the day, should we have asked technology to stop developing at one point or another? How can we get the benefits of freedom without the attached liability of slavery?
