Too connected

The cellphone is one of the most loved (and abused) inventions of our day. Everyone has one, because everyone “NEEDS” to be reached. The desire to immediately reach others seems to be a constant need in our world today. The result of such easy access = the loss of one’s privacy.

Gone are the days when people respected the right of a person to be left alone. Eavesdropping on conversations is a norm, just like checking for suspicious messages on your significant other’s phone (admit it, you’ve done it at least once). You can even record conversations without anyone knowing about it just by pushing a button – i.e. “Hello Garci!” And while this inanimate object has become indispensable in our society, it has given birth to an inconceivable number of legal problems that many fail to appreciate.

Personally, I’ve wanted to throw this tiny, annoying menace away on certain occasions because of many unwanted messages and calls. But in truth, there’s no escape from this monstrosity that man can no longer live without. We can only wish that people will one day learn to be more sensitive about the fact that sometimes, others just want to be left alone.
