FASTING AND ABSTINENCE 2009

Roman Catholic Bishops in Italy are urging the faithful to observing fasting albeit with a new twist -  high-tech fasting. Yesterday, Bishops urged their faithful to stop texting or using their e-mails during fridays. The modern twist to the five-week period that are normally set aside for fasting an prayer before Easter was allegedly made to "remember the importance of concrete and not virtual relationships."

Aside from texting, the Turin also suggested the ban of internet use, i-pod use and television. This response, which is a stroke of genius or a lame attempt to remain relevant to the times - depending on your own beliefs was made only yesterday. Thus, it remains to be seen if people, considering the importance of technology in today's society would indeed observe such teachings.
