virtual high

A yet to be published report on a study conducted by a youth foundation in Sweden states that World of Warcraft [WoW] is so addicting that its effects are comparable to that of cocaine. The head of the foundation even stated that they have not encountered a single case wherein WoW was not involved. Its hard to imagine an online game being compared to something like cocaine, since being addicted to it is not necessarily socially destructive and the game itself cannot conceivably be deemed as harmful to public morals or good customs. Comparing chemical dependence to addiction to a computer game is almost insulting to families who have had to endure the inherent dangers brought about by even recreational drug use. While the State can enforce regulations to hamper some of the more pernicious aspects of gaming [like enforcing a ban for students in gaming places during school hours], it will be hard-pressed to come up with a reasonable nexus between a public policy and banning such games altogether.
