Today’s a Thursday. And here in the Philippines, it means performance day in American Idol. The show starts and you watch each and every contestant perform, her or his name flashing at the screen with the 1-800 number to call or text if you want to vote for her or him. Then you, watching from the Philippines, see this tiny (and frustrating) “NOT AVAILABLE IN THE PHILIPPINES” under the 1-800 number. You just settle for cheering and clapping in front of the TV, and it’s cheering and clapping your favorite contestant will never hear.
Now you can make your appreciation for good singing “heard” through facebook. And it’s not by making a shout out. By next week, fans will be able to vote for their favorite contestant through online voting. The fan, logged on to facebook, can vote through the American Idol website[1]. A facebook account can vote for as much as fifty (50) votes.[2] It is not yet confirmed, however, if accounts created here in the Philippines, or at any country outside the US, can as well. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. For today, let’s just watch the performance show and pray that it would be the last time that that “NOT AVAILABLE IN THE PHIILIPPINES” will flash on our TV screens.
