The Pen of the Future

June marks the beginning of a new school year. Although most students dread going back to school, one thing they can look forward to is getting a hold of the latest gadgets which will make attending class a bit easier.

One such gadget is the LiveScribe SmartPen. This device has definitely upgraded the definition the common pen. It is a great tool for students having trouble catching up with lectures while simultaneously taking notes during class. This ordinary-looking pen contains a voice recorder that allows a person to record everything that is happening in class – from the professor’s enlightening lectures to a student’s uno-worthy recitation. It can also be placed on different settings to adjust to various surroundings and focus on the lecture being recorded. But what is more interesting is that whatever is written on the corresponding LiveScribe paper gets recorded as well. Both the audio recording and the written notes can be synched onto a PC for easy reference. A demonstration can be seen here.

This pen is the next step towards digitalizing the way people take notes. After seeing what it can do, it becomes interesting to imagine how it will evolve, similar to what laptops, cellphones, iPods have done and how it will be integrated to our lives.

Hi Tin, I saw this pen in National Bookstore. Looked so Techy! I wished this came out when we were in First year so we'd be more inspired to take down notes. :)
