The newly implemented 60kph speed limit at Commonwealth Avenue will truly slow you down. Before January 25, 2011, vehicles can go as fast as 80-100kph on this main thoroughfare, but due to approximately two (jaywalker) deaths a day that happen along the “killer highway”, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority lowered down the speed limit by 20kph. Speed guns similar to those used in NLEX will be used to track each vehicle’s speed. Hopefully these speed guns don’t fire at the speeding vehicle.
According to the MMDA Chair, violators will not be apprehended.[1] Instead, photographs of the erring drivers will be taken and summons then will be sent to them.[2] The fine is Php1,200 per violation.[3] Until the violator settles his account with the MMDA, he will not be able to renew his driver’s license or the vehicle’s registration.[4]
So if you have to traverse the Commonwealth to go to UP, you should wake up at the most 13 minutes earlier than usual. And for a morning class like ICT, hindi na uubra ang “tawad, 5 minutes.” Asar.
