(#7) UP’s contribution to the country’s ICT-HRD

With the advent of ICT comes its indispensable role in development, which necessitates (among others) Human Capacity Building, an important aspect of which is Human Resource Development (HRD). The National University has been helping the country in its ICT-HRD efforts thru the UP Information Technology Training Center (UP ITTC).

It provides one-year full time certificate course in IT as well as short courses aimed to supplement the knowledge and skills of college graduates and professionals with those that are needed by the industry.

It uses private partners for training & skill development thru scholarship donations by IT companies.

It bridges the digital divide by enabling digital literacy thru its annual IT Conventions namely the Youth Conference in IT (YCIT), and the Philippine Youth Congress in IT (Y4iT) with over 23,000 participants.

It also helps in rural empowerment thru its free trainings of teachers from colleges and universities nationwide, and e-Government Projects.

That is why UP ITTC is dubbed as a model of effective academe, industry, and government collaboration.
