Fan Service
It was only last year that I discovered the joy of online manga reading. I finished Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach last summer and have now been a religious fan checking every Friday whether my favorite manga have already been updated.
All these were possible because of the Internet. Manga comics that are only available in Japan and obviously written only in Nihongo are now easily accessed and read by fans like me all over the world. Scanlations as they are called, (from the words scan and translation) have been issued for infringing the copyrights of the publishing companies, in fact a popular reading site even closed because the publishers suddenly revoked their permission to use the scanlations.
Nevertheless, fans are relentless in spreading the latest editions of manga comics and for folks like me who have no resources to get a hold of the original one in Japan or even the comprehension to understand Nihongo, these scanlations are heaven. Hats off to the people behind these for their love of manga and for spreading the love to the Internet for no consideration at all except as a fan service to other fans and to the series itself.
