iPod Concert

Filipino rock band Urbandub performed a mini-concert two weeks ago, using only their iPods. Yes, it is possible. Each band member, equipped with an iPod Touch or iPhone hooked to huge speakers, performed his band instrument by way of apps.

Front man Gabby Alipe commented that performing live (traditional) and jumping around on stage is still a different experience. The iPod concert, however, was fun, new, and in keeping with technology.

With this gig of theirs, I’ve developed a newfound respect for Urbandub. What you see here is a band of true artists, willing to experiment, to push boundaries, and open doors to others. There are several video editing geniuses over the internet who have composed brilliant music, mash-ups, and remixes but are not musicians themselves, such as Lasse Gertsen (must watch!). Perhaps it’s the lack of finger dexterity to play the piano or guitar, but they’ve got all the talent when it comes to putting notes and chords together.

Inadvertently or not, Urbandub is slowly bridging the gap between these techno-musicians and traditional musicians alike, creating a whole new era in music where avenues are widened for a more creative and competitive scene.
