Of Candidates and Campaigns

Now that campaign season for the presidential candidates have officially started, I am starting to receive a steady influx of online campaign messages from my various webpages (by this I mean facebook, twitter, multiply, etc).

I don't mind the online messages or e-mails. What I do mind is that they seem to contain no information at all on the candidate's platform of government. No projects, no statements, just a simple "Vote for XXXX" (or something similar) or "XXX and their motto".

Take facebook, for example, where the messages (or fan group referrals) usually contain nothing more than a few lines of the candidate's motto, their picture, and their campaign color.

I know most of these pages are created by volunteers and that they can hardly be expected to write on behalf of candidates, but candidates should take a more proactive role in advising their supporters how to campaign for them.

I think most, if not all, of the candidates right now advocate change. How can we expect them to lead or even change the country when they can't even change the way they campaign?

Change should start not from the time the candidate assumes his or her position, but from the time he or she starts campaigning.

nagpapaka-Obama ba? haha. sort of but not quite. we Filipinos tend to imitate foreign styles or trend. the Obama online campaign phenomenon has influenced us a lot. since generally, the Filipino electorate are more of personality based and not platform based in terms of selecting their bets,it's no surprise why online campaigners did not bother putting in the platforms of their respective candidates. unlike, the online fora and campaigning in the case of Obama.

sana naman they had the gall to post the link to their website that would explain their GPOA at least. hay, if UP is the microcosm of phil society, sana naman mag-iba na rin ang sistema. minsan kasi obvious na papolitiko at trapo lang yung ibang candidates. sana maging mature na ang society natin so can accommodate candidates with substance na lang.
