Caught this amazing movie by Danish director Lone Scherfig, screenplay by English novelist Nick Hornby. It was a coming of age story of a sixteen year old girl set in England in the 1960's.
So. Jenny. Jenny was standing in the rain in her high school uniform, when she's offered a ride by an older man, David. David charms Jenny and takes her to jazz clubs and art auctions and...Paris. She falls in love, he asks her to marry him, she says yes. So she drops out of school and throws her Oxford application away. And then. She discovers that he lives just around the corner...and is married.
Yeah, I know. Love is supposed to sweep you away and everything. But would it hurt to do a background check? Okay so...yeah that would be hard to do in the 1960's. But now? I'm guessing fewer people should fall victim to things like these. I mean, that's what Facebook is for, right? Now, you can't just go "omg, I didn't know you were married." (Does this change the standards for the defense to, say, adultery?) Because ignorance is just not an excuse anymore.
