Parents invading Facebook

Adults were the first users of computers and internet. The latter used to be so complicated that a child would not be patient enough to comprehend it.

When it got simpler, kids are the dominant users of computers, internets, and other gadgets. Adults would need to catch up so that the "generation gap" is minimized.

And now they are trying to catch up. Parents, and even grandparents, are starting to appear in social networking sites. Even Lola Techie knows how to play counterstrike!

As one of the most popular and consumer friendly social networking sites today, the Facebook is one of those sites wherein this phenomenon could be seen. If before, the kids dominate the Facebook pages, now their parents, relatives, and even professors and bosses are also on Facebook.

Some feel that it’s not cool to have adults on social networking sites, as this is one of the venues where one could express oneselves freely - without censorship from elders. But then again, they could just adjust their privacy settings so that not everything they post would be seen by their parents (insert link on privacy)

Some feel it's a sign of lack of trust of the parents on their children. That these children are just children - with no mental capacity to decide responsibly for themselves. No discernment.

However, there are some who are not opposed to parents being on the net. Just like the parents in the new McDonalds commercial, the parents probably just wants to make sure that their children would be safe, protected, and would have help when they need it.

(aaaw...:) )

I would like my lola to have a Facebook or Multiply account. That way, she won't bug me for a copy of pictures  every time I take one. "Lola, it's already uploaded on the internet."
