iphone+googlemaps+3g+gps = super great tme in NYC

by Rowena Ricalde (sixth entry)

This Chistrmas vacation, my brother and I visited my sister in Philly where she is taking her MBA since she cannot go back to the Philippines to spend her holidays. When we arrived in Philly, she was scheduled to take her final exams every night we were there. So, we decided to get out of her way and spend some time visiting East Coast cities.

She suggested we go to NYC since it's only 2 hours away and the roundtrip bus ticket only cost $20 per person. Cheap, right? And she gave us her iPhone for the trip so we will not get lost since it has, according to her, GPS, 3G and Wifi. She says, this device will save you the hassle and it will make our trip the most enjoyable ever.

Since we visited NYC before and its plethora of tourists spots, my brother and I decided to have a "fun" trip - visit Gossip Girl sites and do some food tripping. On the way to NYC, our bus had Wifi so we searched the spots we wanted to visit - Gray's Papaya (for their hotdogs), Lombardi's (first pizza place in NYC), Magnolia Bakery (where Sonja's cupcakes ripped off the idea), Met Steps, Central Park, Palace Hotel.

It was super easy with the iPhone. All we did was mark the places where we wanted to go with the pins so the address is already saved. Then, we just had to put the place where we started and where we wanted to go. It will show you how to get there by car, public transport and foot. And the best part of it all is we can go from our "Current Location" since it has GPS to where we wanted to go. Since 50% of the time we were lost in the general location of where we wanted to be, the GPS greatly helped us in just finding the right directions to where exactly we wanted to go to. And we know we were heading to the right direction since we can see in the iPhone that we were actually moving in the right direction in the Google Maps. As a result, even thought it was close to freezing when we were there, the seven hours in NYC is the most enjoyable trip ever. I sure hope I have an iPhone whenever I go to major cities like London, Paris, Tokyo, etc so that I don't need a tour guide anymore.
