Back in my undergraduate days, I used to RTR (room to room) in AS whenever there are pressing national and local issues. RTR is a way for our organization to reach out to students, a way of making them informed: both that a particular issue is up and students should and are acting on such issue, not merely talking about it.
During that time, the internet in not yet widely utilized as a medium of political action. Now, the internet is in full swing in terms of political information, exchanges and propaganda. The internet is a form of media where at P20 per hour, ideas can be communicated to millions of people. This is good news to marginalized, non-mainstream voices, which could not possibly afford to pay millions of pesos for air time or print ad.

Take for instance the current university issue: the UP system-wide referendum for the Office of Student Regent. YouTube is the one of the media that the University Student Council and the Office of the Student Regent rely for campaigning for the issue, even during the Christmas break where they could not RTR because, well, the students are on break.
To end this blog, may I remind the class to please participate in the referendum on January 26-31 and vote YES to student representation in the Board of Regents.
Thank you.
