TECHNOLOGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

With “The Inconvenient Truth”, eyes have been opened to the very real threat of climate change. Many more have heeded what environmentalists have been saying over the decades. It’s man versus nature. Man changing the world most commonly for the worse, not for the better. But, what can be done? How can we mitigate what is sure to happen?

Here comes technology! Technology has lead to the increased efficient utilization of alternative energy sources such as wind energy, hydrothermal energy as well as harnessing the powers of the waves. Of course, not all of us can become scientists and change the world with our research and innovations. We can do it in our own way…
Take the switch! Go for greener solutions. Reduce consumption (this is in terms of energy, products and even includes food).

For example, switch to LCD monitors instead of the CRT ones (CRT monitors consume the same energy as your regular TV). Turn off the monitors if not in use. Don’t leave appliances plugged, they still eat up energy.

Instead of printing out articles from the web, we can read it through the monitor and reduce waste paper. Save the world, one page at a time.
