When two people who have been in a relationship for a long time part ways, they make a promise which they later on find hard to fulfill - that they'll be friends no matter what. This is made more difficult when new people enter their lives, there are limits. Later on you just don't ignore each other in person, also in cyberspace. Someone I know thought that it was just the ex trying to move on, only to find out that it's the new girlfriend marking her territory. The guy reveals that the new girlfriend got the password to his email, checking his inbox and 'sent' folder every now and then. At times, she uses his ym account even if she has her own. In other words: contact him at your own peril.
Using technology, trust can be put to the test, with both parties at the risk of getting a failing mark - the suspicious party who decides to act on her suspicion and the other who is being doubted, if it's found that there's indeed reason to doubt. No one ends up the winner in cyberstalking your own boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse for that matter. Whatever happened to good old honesty and communication anyway? I know of relationships ruined by this phenomenon and I say it's a pity to see that people trust friendster and yahoomail more than the words of a person they claim to care about. Is this what people mean when they say that ICT gives rise to trust and security issues?
