The Queen and YouTube

You know the world is changing when the Queen of an Islam country has launched her own YouTube channel. And no, this is not a start of a joke. Queen Raina of Jordan, who in 1995 was named the third most beautiful woman in the world by Harpers & Queen magazine, was recently honored by the video sharing site with the first ever YouTube Visionary Award for her "use of technology to instigate social change".
Queen Raina originally launched her channel on March 30, 2008, with a video in which she asked people to send her their questions about Islam and the Arab world until August 12, 2008 (International Youth Day). She responded to these questions and posted videos on topics that are closely associated with the Islam world. In short, she opened a forum for people to better understand the Arab world. According to the AFP, over the five month conversation, her YouTube site had more than 3 million views.
I particularly liked her acceptance speech (a spoof of David Letterman’s Top 10) where she enumerated her 10 reasons for starting her channel. (No. 10 – “because I didn’t have enough friends on Facebook”)
