Of Reality and Realizations - Part 1

When asked how many siblings I have, I would always say 2. I have an older brother who's 31 and a younger brother who's just about to turn 23. People who've known me since my childhood are astounded by such reply because as far as they know, I was the eldest of 2 children. It's a difficult fact to explain, but all 3 of us remain steadfast in the veracity of the fact. We all agree on one other thing. When people get lost, either they really lose their way or they simply don't want to be found. In the situation we were faced with, the latter was more true.

You see, my Kuya is not my biological brother, but he's been as much a brother to me as a "real" one could get. When we get together, we always get looks because physically, he stands out from our group. He stands well over 6 feet and is dark-skinned while the rest of us are of average height with fair skin. But it doesn't matter to us. My parents are his parents, and his mom is like my mom, too. His dad, however, is an entirely different issue. He's never met his dad. Or should I say, at least not until very recently. And cyberspace proved to be a very handy culprit. Little did we know that the things we see on the news and hear happening around us was going to be a big part of our lives.

To be continued.
