I’m a traffic enforcer magnet…
A couple of weeks back, I was flagged by a police officer for swerving, since this would be the nth time I was caught, I came prepared. I showed the officer an article I found on the internet which explains what is swerving and what to do incase one is caught.
The officer was taken aback because I think not too many of us carry a copy of an internet article in their cars. According to the article, you need to call the MMDA hotline even if you are in the middle of arguing with the enforcer so that they can send an “inspectorate” to assist you. I reached in my bag to get my phones, since I still have credits on my sun cellular line, I started dialing the hotline… but it wouldn’t connect. The officer looking smug started telling me that I should instead pay to him a portion of the penalty so I won’t get a ticket. I started to panic, I wasn’t sure if my smart line has credits left, but I had to try, so I placed a call using my smart line …at last, my call was connected. I was able to get away with a bogus apprehension thanks to the MMDA hotline.
Lucky for me, I’m a smart subscriber, but how about those who are using other providers. Does this mean that they cannot use the hotline? It’s crazy that one network has a monopoly of all the services, especially if they include access to government offices.
*MMDA hotline is 136
